Tedesco JAOS 65, 86 < vr̥ddha- 'cut', but one of a series of words with initial labial expressing a defect of body, mind or character, whether of Mu. (PMWS 95) or Drav. origin (T. Burrow BSOAS xii 387): cf. paṇḍá-, *phaṇṭa-, *bhaṇḍu-, vaṇṭa-².
