7136 nikaṭam, °ṭē, °ṭāt adv. 'near' R. [Despite EWA ii 158 derivation with P. Tedesco JAOS 65, 161 f. from nikr̥ṣṭa- is phonet. impossible, and Mu. origin with F. B. J. Kuiper Debrunner-Festschrift 247 unlikely. Derived from nikr̥ta- adverbially preserving the mng. '*put at' (semant. cf. saṁnihita- 'near') afterwards replaced by 'put down, humbled' (J.C.W.)]
